You Spin Me Right Around, Baby!
Have you ever had dinner in one of those funky revolving restaurants and wondered what it would be like to have a house that did the same thing? Well, wonder no more, because thanks to Al and Janet Johnstone of San Diego, California, you too can have a revolving house of your very own.
Al and Janet designed and built this place, which is their home, and the technology that Al conjured up to make the place spin - his patented SWIVEL system - is now available for your own spinning abode.
The rotating house is driven by a three horse power, low-geared DC motor. It rides on one very large bearing which is six foot in diameter and carries a dynamic load of over 1.3 million pounds and then forty smaller bearings that are six inches in diameter and carry 35,000 pounds each.
The speed of the house goes from a leisurely one rotation per 24 hours all the way up to one rotation every 30 minutes, which may seem fast, but isn’t really. One can start or stop the house from rotating as easily as flipping a light switch.
Al and Janet’s website - RotatingHome.com - has got lots of photos of their place as well as more details on how the technology works.

[…] Well, I admit it, I like rotating homes. Well, I think I do. I’ve never actually lived in one to say for sure, but I like it in theory. I don’t think I’m the only one that likes the concept, because rotating homes are springing up, more and more. […]
