Wed Arch: Robert A.M. Stern, FAIA

I want “Wed Arch” to explore residential architecture and the architects that created it. Robert A.M. Stern, FAIA is one of my favorite architects. I also decided to start with Stern because my favorite designer, Goil on Top Design worked for him.
I’m not sure what I really know about him. I have read that he is the Dean of Yale School of Architecture. I also believe he is still the Senior Partner of the firm he founded, and is involved in every commission his firm is awarded. I am not going to claim that I know a bunch of history of his early influences. I do know he has influenced me and my designs. I also sense that Stern connects with each client. Listening to there needs and not propping up his portfolio. That is why some of his residential projects might seem…Ho hum…yawn.

Robert A.M. Stern’s residential projects to me represent a Transitional style. I would define it as the use of natural materials (concrete, wood, bamboo), modern spaces, mixed with traditional finish details (crown molding, trim, and casing). Closely represents and ties in Prairie and Craftsman Style.
