The Wigwam Village Motel

In Cave City, Kentucky on Route 31 near the #53 exit of I-65, one will find the Wigwam Village Motel. This particular wigwam motel was the first of its kind to be built - by Frank A. Redford in 1937 - and is one of a very few remaining “teepee-style” motels still operating in North America.
Not only is this Wigwam Motel still going, but according to an article at RoadsideAmerica.com, the place is full most nights. Reasonable rates and close proximity to the local Mammoth Cave attractions seem to help keep it in business.
There are 14 wigwam units, arranged in a semi-circle that face a larger teepee that houses the front desk and a gift shop. Amenities include steam heat, tile baths, cable TV, a large playground, picnic tables and grills. No pets allowed.
Check out this piece from RoadsideAmerica.com for more details.

Hey! Sweet! That’s a picture of home. I grew up not far from there and would regularly pass by the Wigwam hotel, many times heading to various band competitions and other school & church related events. Thanks for bringing back memories of my “good ‘ol days”.
