The Whistler Mushroom House
As a Canadian and a ski bum, I’ve spent my fair share of time in the Shangrila that is Whistler, British Columbia. I even lived there for a spell. If you’ve ever spent much time there, you will have, no doubt, heard of and possibly even seen the famous Mushroom House.
Located in the Emerald Estates development at the north end of the valley, The Mushroom House was first devised in the late 1970’s. It’s creator, Zube, has spent 22 years ruminating, devising, creating and re-creating this hippie masterpiece. From The Mushroom House website…
The interior design is based on the anatomy of a tree. All aspects of the décor reflect this motif, from the womblike hues of the Jacuzzi room in the ‘roots’ to the vivid leaf greens on the walls in the ‘canopy’.
I always wondered what the interior looked like, and now thanks to The Mushroom House website, we can all take a tour. Apparently, the place is for sale. I have no idea how much for, but given the logo on the flash version of the site for Christie’s Estates, something tells me it’s out of my price range.
