The Ultimate in Recycled Homes

by Jennifer Chait on March 17th, 2008

Superuse.org is this great site that consists of (as you might think) recycled items made new again.

From Superuse.org:

“Superuse.org is an online community of designers, architects and everybody else who is interested in inventive ways of recycling. The site allows you to post items at various scales within the reuse-topic. All examples of small commodities, furniture, interiors, buildings and reuse on urban scale are welcomed. Next to exhibiting applications, we promote the development of knowledge on the subject by starting up discussions, adding historical background and allowing user comments.”

Here’s one amazing find - the recycled house - made from an airplane! Too spiffy for words.

There’s an awesome story about this home, with room layout descriptions, reasoning, and more. You should read it.

My first thought was that there wouldn’t be any legroom when you sat in one of the chairs. But probably she’s dealt with that. I wish there’d be a drawing of the layout; I still can’t quite picture it. What I’m imagining is some kind of — what do they call it? a railroad apartment, where all the rooms are in a row?
Still, I agree that this was a gutsy decision to make, and I love the low-maintenance aspect of it!

She looks small though. This is not a home for bigger people, or taller folks I suppose. I can’t quite picture it either, but talk about the biggest recycling project ever, in one grand swoop too.
