The Shady Dell RV Park
Deep down in the Mule Mountains of southern Arizona lies the quirky little town of Bisbee, and in that town you’ll find an equally quirky place to stay called The Shady Dell.
The Shady Dell has been providing trailer and camping spaces to the travelers of Hwy 80 since 1927 and it continues to do so today, though in an interesting way. While part of the park is equipped with full RV hookups for the modern day traveler, the other part features an opportunity to experience trailer camping as it was in the days of old.
A funky selection of vintage aluminum travel trailers are available for your overnight or weekly stay in a collection that includes a 1949 Airstream, a ‘54 Crown, a ‘57 Airfloat as well as The Tiki Bus (1947 Airporter that’s been transformed into a ‘Polynesian Palace‘) and a 38 foot Chris Craft Yacht (what’s wrong with a yacht in the middle of Arizona?).
The hosts of The Shady Dell have taken great pains to ensure that the interiors of all the accomodations feature original decor and period features like black-and-white televisions, phonographs with vintage records and memorabilia from the heyday of trailer traveling.
They’ve got a great website too (www.theshadydell.com).
Tip of the hat to Cary from Church of the iPod.
