The House Kern
Lately it seems all I see are homes that technically might be out of place but are designed in such a way that blends them seamlessly into the landscape. This home, the House Kern, by Stoosarchitekten, I’m torn about. I’m a fan because Stoosarchitekten work always has nice clean lines and is subtle in it’s uniqueness. This work makes an understated statement.
What do you think?
From far away:

Close up: I like the close up view better. I really like how it nuzzles into the hillside.

The top patio:

So, obtrusive or offbeat landscape blend? I’m leaning towards liking it yet, I doubt I’d choose to live there. The big windows help it’s cause.

I like it…it looks almost like it could be an out cropping of rock fromt he hill side it’s self. Saying that..I think that if “I” would have been deigning it I would have gone for that a bit more and made the lines a bit more random.

I’m with you I love the windows, and the view. Not sure I like the house though. I’m more the rustic old fashioned type.

Marye, that’s a good call. Cropping it out of a rock — I love that theory. I do think, had they gone with random lines it would not stand out as much. Although, we surely have seen random lines stand out before so maybe… ? Hmmm.
Linette ~ I’m more rustic too. I do sort of fall in love with every building I see but I think that deep down I like old school best.

I’m with Marye on this. It would have made much more sense to give it that ‘boulder’ look popular in zoos and theme parks.
I do like the home, just not there. it ruins the landscape for me.

I think it’s a big ugly concrete box stuck into the hillside so I vote a resounding ‘thumbs down’ on this one!
