Treehugger has some information about a builder, Minto, in Canada that will be building 20,000 homes! All of the homes are built to be energy efficient and receive an Energy Star rating. I am concerned however by:
Double wall construction, with high level of insulation and triple-glazed insulated windows, contribute to a design that is 55% more efficient than typical new homes.
This is a WASTE! You could probably receive the same energy rating using floor framing members like TJI’s. You’ll use over half the framing materials too! The TJI’s, when used as studs, can be spaced further along the wall.

I LOVE furniture too! How can you not when it looks like this. By the way, this is OUTDOOR furniture, Beautiful. One of my place to get my Furniture Porn fix is 2Modern!

PrairieMOD is a great site! I am following a story that applies their “10 Principles for Modern Living”. This story of a small room remodel could become useful for any DIY remodeler. SHOOT any designer!
We have a WHOLE LOTTA love for Treehugger this week but… you have to listen to this, inspiring and interesting interview with Cameron Sinclair. He is the author of “Design Like You Give a Damn” and the creator of Architecture for Humanity.
