Real or Fake: The House Between Two Rocks
So here’s my issue; this house looks completely fake to me. The placement and colors — more like it was staged or photoshopped than a real live oddball home. However, searching around has turned up plenty of websites that say, “Yes, it’s real.” Technically most sites say something akin to, “This is a house in France called Maison dans les Roches (House Between the Rocks) de Plougrescant in the Brittany region” and not much else though.
Here’s a look and if you’ve been there give me the scoop.

Reddit has a funny thread about this house. Although it’s not something I’d normally do here I’m posting it:
Fellow number one: “A very short-sighted place to build. Those are clearly very young rocks, and whatever will happen to the house as they grow?”
Fellow number two: “Rocks don’t grow like plants. These rocks are actually the result of the ground sinking down, due to the erosion of the softer sedimentary rocks forming the ground. The foundation of the house probably blocks this erosion process. So it’s unlikely that the house gets crushed. The house might get flooded though… And also, I wouldn’t say these rocks are young, since their surfaces look fairly polished.”
Fellow number one: “good god man. Humor, do you grok it?!”
I don’t know why but this little banter cracked me up. I like the house but still think it looks unreal. What do you think?

“I grok it” is my new tagline for absolutely everything now. Including you — as in, “I grok Marye”, “Marye groked it” and so on.

My first thought is ’shopped as well, but if it is they did a good job with the reflections! I want to believe it’s real and that cute little wall wouldn’t be built just to protect the rocks, right? Right?

It SOOO looks fake! Like something out of a Dr. Suess’ fairytale.
“I do not like big rocks and grok. I do not like them on a house, I do not like them with a mouse. I do not like big rocks and grok. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am.”

Heather my fish helper! If it’s fake then yes the reflections are good. I’m no photo wiz though. It takes little to fool me about pictures. Bridget, you are too funny. If you’re this funny all the time I should be visiting your blog more often. Note to self — visit biz chicks.

It’s fake. The top picture has moss that is too green on the rocks, with the reflection being of the whole structure, while the house is too far from the shore to reflect. If you notice the bottom pic, there is no moss/vines.
Reflections aren’t as hard to make as it might seem. It’s just a matter of layering and using the proper brushes to smudge. Pretty, but totally unreal. Makes me sad, I’d like to live there.

I don’t know. You are the graphics girl but everyone says it’s real. I’ll have to do some digging. You do bring up an excellent moss point. I missed that — good old me noticing everything.

I stand corrected, found more references and a photo that isn’t as perfectly ‘cut’ as the original. When you do graphics you come to expect that the very crisp things are faked. Sigh, oh sigh, whatever happened to my trust.
Here’s a link to another photo where you can see it’s real.

Thanks for playing detective Julie! I still think it looks fake. But so many people can’t be fibbing I suppose. Plus I do trust your photo knowledge.

Detective Julie. Hm. Should that be a new novel? Thanks for the compliment.:-)
I’m just glad it’s not the ‘Poop House Between The Rocks.’

Personally I believe it is totally FAKE!!!! if you notice in the first picture above it doesn’t have a brick wall around but the second one does!!! oh and the pictue that Jullie posted above still looks as if it was a simple picture of rocks and someone digitally placed that house in between!!! But I must commend whoever did the brilliant artwork of digitally placing the house into the picture beacause it obveouslly has many people puzzled, I’m even still sceptical about my opinion but I will still back it up all the way!!

I don’t know; as a final semi-word I’m going with real.
Because I’d like to believe it. Thanks Katelyn for the thoughts and stopping by — sorry I missed your comment before.
