Offbeat Props Going Out To…

by Jennifer Chait on October 20th, 2007

I’ve been meaning to do this post for a while now but it’s been a busy month. It’s no secret that I adore writing Offbeat Homes and lately various people have said some really kind things about this blog, so I wanted to send out some happy thoughts to some folks.

happy.jpgNot to sound like an Oscars speech; but seriously some people are so cool to Offbeat Homes so…

Angelique:

One of my regulars here is Angelique. She’s a super fun comment queen and also a stellar blogger in her own right. A while back she posted the absolute best blog post ever about Offbeat at her blog Recess for Writers.

Angelique’s post was sweet; she wrote about why Offbeat inspires her, the top three aspects, and who this blog is perfect for. It completely brightened my day. She has an on-going series lately where she recommends a favorite blog (great idea). I would recommend that you check her blog out. She’s got all the qualities a good blogger should have; she’s funny, honest, and a tad sarcastic but never mean.

The Home Rejuvenation Blog:

A few weeks ago or so one of the nice guys (Stan) who runs KNQ Associates and the Home Rejuvenation blog emailed me and said I’d been nominated as an influential design blogger (by someone?). Turns out he was running a poll — looking for great design bloggers in order to compile a list of the best 10. He wrote some super nice words about Offbeat at his blog; which was extra nice considering that I’m not so much a design blogger (You don’t want me decorating your home — believe me). But I thought what his blog was doing was a great idea because a lot of the blogs I love the most are the architecture and design blogs and many seem to go unnoticed. Right now the entire list of the 10 Most Influential Design Bloggers is up at the Home Rejuvenation blog so hit that.

About.com: Weblogs:

I actually wrote about this at my personal blog but didn’t want to leave Deb out here so… Deborah Ng as most heavy blog readers and writers know writes for About’s Weblogs site. She recently mentioned Offbeat Homes there along with nine other female written blogs as a way to recognize female bloggers. One; that’s such a great idea since most of the top lists are man heavy (no offense to the men — but they are). Two, to put me in the list was ultra kind because most of the bloggers she named I’m big fans of — so that was an honor.

But Deb just doesn’t go around recognizing female bloggers; she also a huge advocate of fair wages for writers, blogging issues, and of course runs the amazing Freelance Writing Jobs which has helped who knows how many writers find work. Add to that her own blogging talent such as at blogs like Simply Thrifty and The Celebrity Role Model Blog (to name a slight few) and you have an all around cool female blogging force to be reckoned with — which later she’ll get me for even saying because she’s modest too. But now it’s out there so what’s she gonna do?

Felicia:

smile.jpgNow, Felicia’s not linked because I don’t know her… but I recently found out that she (or someone going by this name) nominated Offbeat Homes at the 2007 Weblog Awards for best photo blog. I wanted to recognize Felicia because it made my day. So thank you… wherever you are; I appreciate it so much.

Why bother with props…

Some of us are lucky enough to get to blog and write for a living and I feel lucky every single day to be one of those someones. However, there are downsides and hard days when you’re a blogger and/or freelance writer and sometimes it can feel like people don’t get it. I’ve know people (including family and close friends) who think I sit around all day doing nothing and/or that blogging and writing isn’t real work. I can tell you that all the best bloggers I personally know work very hard at what they do almost daily. There’s a lot involved and when you’re having a bad day or a sick day or moving there’s still that blog waiting for a post.

When people like the ones I’ve mentioned above notice that Offbeat (or anyone’s blog for that matter) means something it makes it really worth while and reminds you why you started writing in the first place. Anyhow, I’m not good at heartfelt speeches so I’ll stop before I embarrass myself but I did want to say big hugs to everyone above and to all the other great people who visit and comment and become part of this blogging community.

I’ve talked enough…

But in the spirit of passing on the blog love I’m listing some blogs I love and I hope you’ll visit them. What they’re about will be a surprise since we have established the whole I’ve talked enough today issue. Visit the blogs below and maybe if you have a blog send out some props of your own because you never know how much you may be brightening someone’s day.

By the way, this list would be 100+ strong if I listed all the blogs I adore… this is just a sample for today.

Now visit and pass it on.
