Offbeat Home for Sale: Want Wood Paneling?
In an effort to help out the people of the world who want to live in; not just read about Offbeat Homes I’ve decided to institute a new series of posts highlighting offbeat real estate.
Considering the market these posts may occur on a weekly basis or less often — really it depends on what I find out there. From time to time I see Offbeat Homes up for sale but lately I’ve seem some real winners. Hence the sale kick-off.
This offbeat home listing comes from Swamplot and the home itself is located in Houston. But even if you don’t live in Houston; you’ll probably be willing to move there once you see this home.
From all outside appearances the home appears fine, even dull, not offbeat at all. Check out the yard; nice and green plus those tiny poodle trees would make a great topic of conversation.
Here are some basic home facts:
- 3200 square feet on a lovely tree-lined street
- Close to the Medical Center and Rice University
- Oversized lot
- Large rooms, including a family room
- Pool!
But most importantly there is… the wood paneling.
Let’s look at the most attractive room first; the sunroom. Not that I said the couch is attractive or for that matter the fan… or floor. Still this room is kind of light and airy feeling.
One room with wood paneling would have been ok. But they didn’t stop in the sunroom because honestly if one room of wood paneling is good than more rooms are better right?

Hey, at least they didn’t panel the actual fireplace.

It’s like eating in a forest!
Did they have to use 813 different types of paneling? Seriously.
WTF? Below is one of those don’t ask, don’t tell sort of issues.
If you haven’t quite made up your mind yet, there are some more picture to see that could help to seal the deal.
You’ll be happy to know that all this wood panel bliss can be yours for the low, low price of just $384,777. And believe me you get more than just the wood paneling you also get piece of mind because according to the seller, “This home never flooded.” Well, bonus! I always wanted a home that never flooded.
I know most of you will be fighting over this house but no worries because if you don’t score this one it just wasn’t meant to be. Sooner or later you’ll find that dream home. If you do score this one I’m begging you to send pictures.

Well, Becca I think this house is too old to have made it onto the conservation game. Sadly. I have no clue why you’d take perfectly good walls and thrash them like this.
Lindsay, I was alive in the 70s! Yikes. I actually sort of like old school panels — (I do write a Hippie blog) but they may have gone a tad overboard on the fun here. Maybe whoever buys it should go full-force into it. Like install avocado appliances and orange shag. That would be so sweet. Lava lamps and that horrid track lighting. They already have those icky fans.

Thanks Apella… it does sort of look like a trailer exploded inside. I don’t know that I’ve ever lived in a place like this. I lived in the back of a truck while traveling once; it was better decorated than this house though.
I like your blog (what I saw of it) the scary homes are cool — I was planning something like that here but a bit more offbeat maybe. I’ll have to go back when I get more time and check it out more.

That’s my DREAM HOUSE! Well, pretty close. I’m not crazy about the paneling in the bedroom, but otherwise I LOVE wood paneling, especially in living rooms/dens. I love 70s decor!!!

Hey–in Houston, where people had to kayak or swim to work at the medical center a few years ago, “This home never flooded” is a huge selling point.
I live a couple of hours north of Houston, and let me tell you–when we get the frog-drowners typical of spring in Texas, we tend to watch the water come up over the curbs and wonder whether to move the furniture to higher ground.

@Jo, actually having lived in Humboldt a long time, I get it. There it was “no mud slides” - I’ve never been to Houston though, and before I read this, had no clue about the flooding. I’m glad I don’t live there, it seems like there are too many weather extremes.
