London’s Double Deckers Become Homes

by Kevin Humphrey on January 16th, 2006

LondonAs the city of London, England continues to retire its iconic fleet of double decker buses from service, a company called Double Decker Living is buying up the newer Leyland Olympians and converting them into 2 storied abodes for the road.

Featuring a common sitting area, bathroom with shower, kitchen and dining facilities and sleeping room for five, Double Decker Living has converted 6 of the buses to date and have another 50 in the queue.

For the environmentally-minded, the conversions include solar panelling, composting toilets and the added extra of a couple of fold-up bicycles so you don’t have navigate the behemouth down the block just to pick up the basics.

The company lent one bus to a London homeless youth charity over the holidays for use in its outreach efforts and from their website, they seem to be targeting public service agencies as prospective buyers. You catch more details at DoubleDeckerLiving.com.
