Kenya’s Giraffe Manor
Not far from Nairobi, Kenya, one can find some rather unique lodgings at a place called the Giraffe Manor. Originally built in 1932 on 120 acres of land, the Manor was bought in the mid-seventies by the founders of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, who promptly moved five young members of the endangered Rothschild giraffe population to the property where they have since lived happy lives. Hence where the place got its name I presume.
From the Giraffe Manor web site…
Exclusive, spacious and elegant, it is the only place in the world that you can feed giraffe from your second floor bedroom window, over the lunch table, and at the front door. Guests can feed and photograph the giraffe and the Warthogs at the Manor, and also wander through the adjoining primeval forest to view the bushbuck, dik dik, and more than 180 species of birds.
So, the next time you happen to be on safari on the dark continent, be sure to check it out. I hear there’s nothing quite like having a giraffe lick the side of your face while eating breakfast.
