How the Cool Kids Get to School

by Jennifer Chait on August 8th, 2007

Ah, more back to school fun. If your kids ride the bus to school, at least make sure they ride in style.

Yawn!

NOT LIKE THIS! How boring, or as the kids are saying, “that is so not scene (yawn).”
Try this instead…

Jacuzzi School Bus

Oh yeah. Now that’s a school bus. But not just any old school bus. This tiger is a conversion which means, of course, that you can live in it. In fact, the individual who built this calls it “The Jacuzzi Bus.” Why yes, an offbeat home it is. Or at least this one is an offbeat rec center.

Some words are coming to mind here. Mack… daddy… pimp (not in that order). But still, the site is great. This guy shows the entire conversion plus travels and a daring Jeep rescue in photos. Highly entertaining, a great reuse of materials, and well worth a visit.

But can you build a solar bus conversion? Why sure…

It that the coolest ever? If I get one, do you think I can just hang my rainbow sign up on the back?

Some funky (I’m guessing reused!) wood paneling innards. I have to admit it, I would live here. One of my plans down the road is actually to get an RV and live in it for a few years with my son. A great on the road education. But I could make a school bus conversion work.

Okay one more. If you know me at all, you’ll have guessed that there’s a favorite coming. And here it is…

First the inside, which gives you an idea of how normal a bus conversion can be. It’s very RV like. Bus conversions can actually be really comfortable and have all the same things as your home; bedrooms, living area, kitchen, bath and shower. I’ve even seen one with a bathtub — well, I guess we’ve all now seen one with a jacuzzi.

But wait…

I'm speechless, but in a good way

Sweet. When I get my RV I am hiring the guy who did this to paint it.

So very nice

I don’t even need a rainbow sign for this. Maybe a green roof; wouldn’t that be such a good idea?

For more information on turning your kid’s boring yellow ride into something pimped out, solar, or beautiful beyond belief, visit Skoolie.net. A great site for all things bus conversion.

Would you live in a bus?

First of all…those are just 60’s flower power VW vans grown up.
Second…::whispering::I think I dated that guy in the 70’s…..
(not really, but seems like all the guys that asked me out had pimped out chevy vans. What idiot parent is going ot buy their 17 year old boy a custom van with couches?)

Wow, Marye, strong opinions on the pimped out buses or what! I would buy my son one; it has to be safer than a tiny easy to crunch sports car. I’d feel better if he never drove, maybe a consolation would be to have this much metal around him. Also, should we email this fellow and see if he’s the guy ;)

    LOL!
I just wouldn’t buy my son a van with couches is all I am saying…the more uncomfortable the back seat of the vehicle the better I like it.
Not that MY son would do anything bad..but hey..back in the 70’s guys were..well…you might like ot look up the lyrics to “Chevy Van” on google.

You crack me up marye. A lot. I don’t think I’d like to turn this into Offbeat Dating anyway, or Offbeat Set-Ups, or Offbeat Pimps, I sort of like the homes actually :D

Those are some cool buses! My kids ride a (yawn) boring one. I like the one with the jacuzzi! We have ben wanting to buy an rv but they are $$$$, maybe converting a school bus would be cheaper? Oh, the looks we would get cruising down the road. :)

Susan and Julie… I just plain ignored you two! What is the world coming to. I’ll blame Mayre who cracked me up so much I wasn’t concentrating.

Julie. Get one! Think of how well someone like you could organize it. You can find pretty cheap travel trailers — maybe look at those.

And Susan, with triplets I don’t see how you can not get a bus. I say you get one and let the kids paint it. That would be cool.

I thank you both for stopping by, as it’s always a pleasure to see either one of you :)
