Home on the Edge…
I’m back! Not that I’m done unpacking from the move but I missed Offbeat and my cool readers so here I am.
I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Desire to Inspire but they are a neat design blog that is big on reader participation and they always show fine homes and other slices of design delights that you must see.
A good while back they posted The Holman House; a fabulous over the ocean home by Durbach Block Architects who I love but I don’t know that I’d seen this home (they do a lot of projects). Thus, I was really excited to see this post. I’ve been saving this home for a while…
I like to wait for moments.
Anyhow, one of my best blogging friends had some lame news recently and this is right up her perfect home alley so now is the moment.

The Holman House is located in Dover Heights, NSW and makes great use of flowing geometrics to create this amazing space. You can clearly see this say, if you were under the home looking up.

I love how it appears to be precariously perched over the water. A house that’s offbeat, scaryish, and has views like this. You know I’d hit it. The pool isn’t bad either.
Sweet bathroom; bringing the ocean colors inside.
I think I could manage to eat breakfast happily here. What a way to liven up cereal.
And obviously no amazing ocean style house is complete without a…

I don’t love the black railing but note the great floor and off kilter beams — how great are those. How that roof appears to curve down just a bare touch to meet the beams makes me so happy it gives me the shivers. Nice Durbach Block work!
Well, hopefully this made my blog friend (and everyone else’s) day a little more peaceful, water filled, and happy.
Make sure to visit Desire to Inspire for more photos of this home: plus they rock and double bonus — right now they have David Loftus. A simply amazing photographer. (seriously).
Also see more offbeat lovelies at the Durbach Block Architects site. Especially take a look at their Hrdlicka House it has beautiful curves and special little touches.

O.k..I really hate modern…but I really love this. Can you imagine watching storms come in? WOW. I just need to figure out where to put the horses….

I’m not a mod, pre-fab, container home junkie as a rule. But some are too amazing to pass up. This being one of them. Maybe horses would like the lovely pool area?

PS storms would be scary. But maybe a rush.

Oh girl, this home made my day. One would be hard-pressed not to leave their lame news behind after seeing this dandy.
That bathroom, the eating area…glorious. And so…watery. I absolutely adore it. And you. Thanks for being so kewl.
P.S. I’m all about storm-watching, but this might be pushing it a little. I’m not sure impending death would make the eating area seem quite as lovely as when there’s sunny skies.

Well, Lib glad you liked it — I’m also glad you used the word dandy (there are some under-used words and that just may be one of them).
I actually think the bath was my favorite part. Not so big on modern baths but the colors in this one were so ocean-like. I could sleep in there (maybe). Also, you maybe right. Cereal might not taste quite as good while watching a scary storm roll in; especially how that home is perched. Yikes!

This is so cool! I always wondered what it would be like to stay at one of those resorts that had thatched huts right over the ocean. Now, I’m wondering what it would be like to live in this glass marvel right over the ocean.

Hey Mary Jo; I guess there are pros and cons. Your grass home might blow away but this one might tumble and crash into the sea. Hmmm, what to do. I say live by a pond (A SMALL POND) not loch ness-like or anything. That’s one way to have water and safety. Who can tell I’m nervous about water.
It’s actually not the water — it’s what’s in the water (sharks, giant squid, loch ness monsters, etc). Yikes.

Oh wow, I love this place! If I could convince my husband to move to the beach I would be there in a heartbeat. He loves the mountains, I love the beach, so….we live in Georgia. 4 hours to each.
