Hillside Living in Liuzhou China
There’s living on a hillside, then there’s living in a hillside. Dutch architectual firm MVRDV has a reputation for being a little unconventional and that trend is continuing with a housing development in Liuzhou, China.
Facing the spectre of eroding mountain sides in the valley where the project is to be located, MVRDV came up with the novel idea of masking the erosion by stacking a series of box structures in a staggered and rather organic fashion up the hillsides. Looking at the spec photos on the MVRDV web site (www.mvdrv.nl), the effect is striking.
The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2007.
There are more details of the firm’s projects in this article from China Daily.
