Offbeat Homes

Happy 4th of July!

by Jennifer Chait on July 4th, 2007

Well, happy 4th to all my American readers anyhow — or anyone else wishing to partake in a little firework fun.

Now, do you know how hard it is to find an offbeat fireworks home? I don’t know what’s wrong with designers today but man, no one is building homes that light up, spark, or otherwise explode. Geez. What’s a devoted blogger to do?

I almost gave up… then I had a vision, a stroke of clever, a… never mind. Here you go; one official offbeat 4th of July home coming up:

Ha, got ya!

Remember that this year both The National Fire Protection Association and The American Academy of Pediatrics have one tip and only one tip for firework safety:

“Children and their families should be counseled to attend public fireworks displays rather than purchase fireworks for home use.”

Both organizations agree that standing behind this tip will cause less harm than going over and over lists of safety rules. I agree, leave the fire play to the professionals. For pete’s sake, if you’re going to burn some off at home be careful! But I suggest you pack up the family, or dog, or friends, or whoever you hang with, grab a picnic dinner, and head out to the nearest community display. Less money, less work, more safety.

Don’t have this be your home:

You didn’t think I’d have just one structure–firework related picture now did you?

Have a safe, fun, and always offbeat 4th!
