Giving A Offbeat Keeping Castle Tip

Maybe this is not a new tip, in fact I think I read it somewhere. You may even be a well organized, Keeping The Castle afficionado. If you are, well….I am not sure what to say but for the majority of us, this is one of those so easy it just might catch on.

We recently moved into a new house. In fact just a couple of days ago. The new home is larger than our last and it is a two story. We have two young kids, a lot of little things get brought down stairs from their bedrooms. Things like Matchbox cars, piggies, combs, socks, binkies, barrettes, Crayons, Polly Pockets….you get the picture. I know, tell the kids to put it back, right! We do tell them, a half dozen times, “Go put this in your room!” and it gets there. It’s just that as “it” is going upstairs another “it” is found or different “it” comes back. So you start to…Do it yourself! pretty soon those stairs become the Stair Master you are avoiding at the gym!

To cut down on the stomping of my wifes feet up the stairs we decided that we would start keeping a basket at the bottom of the stairs. While you are down stairs, you find little things that need to go upstairs. In the basket. Then the next time you need to go up, or it is full, you take the basket with you. The key, don’t get a basket that is too big. If it is too big you won’t use it. It will be too big to carry. It will be to big to fit on the stairs.

We prefer, and are using an Open Canvas Bin. Like I said, it may be dumb enough to work! Find additional tips at Keeping The Castle.
