Functionality Meets Creativity

To passersby, the house on Ribaut Road might appaear eccentric, even weird, but its owners and the architect they hired to construct it are pleased with its functionality. When the Henrys decided to build a guest house beside their 1920s cottage, they hired architect Rob Montgomery for the job. What they wanted was a bathtub on the top floor that would allow them to relax while looking over the river. What they got was a lot more than that.
The guest house features two-story concrete walls that project to the side in order to protect the house from the traffic at the other side, which is further softened by a sheet of falling water and a small pool. Inside, guests are greeted by a three-story atrium in which flowers are free to bloom.
Weird? Perhaps. But architecture should never shy away from creativity.
