Floating Homes of Halong Bay
Halong Bay is a body of water along the coast of north Vietnam, part of the larger Gulf of Tonkin. The region is well known for the almost 2,000 monolithic islands that rise up spectacularly from the water and densely populate the bay.
Another thing that Halong Bay is well known for are the floating villages that dot the area. The locals, primarily fishermen, live in houses and groupings of houses that float out in the channels between the islands.
Sure seems like a wonderfully idyllic way to live. Of course, that is until somebody buys a jet-ski. There’s also the issue of the mines that the US forces left behind after their little police action, which still cause problems.
These images here were found at the blogs of SavagePencil (here) and Daniel Pupius (here) who both have more cool photos to peruse at their sites.

Halong Bay The Trullu a Must See
Some miles outside Hanoi you will find Halong Bay, and it is really worth a visit for a day or two. Out in the bay you can find beautiful caves, unusual formations of the islands, lovely beaches for a swim.
And in the little town of Halong you will find a lot of shops, resturants, pubs and whatever you would like, and even a nice beach. And if you like Karaoke - this is the place.
I visited the place for two days, Thanks all to the Team at
http://www.halongbay-vietnam.com
who arrange for our 2 days wonderfull trip.
Best Regards and We will be back again to Halong Bay when we can.

I just saw a lovely version of the same sort of floating house on HGTV. Two artists who live on the water near Tofino, B.C. have created a wonderful floating complex of greenhouses, studio and cottage.
