Fancy Becoming a British Heir?
It seems as though there’s a little country estate in Somerset, England that’s in need of an heir.
Sir Benjamin Slade, owner of Maunsel House, is a gentleman who is getting on in his years. He’s childless and has been unable to find a relative who would be willing to take over care of the property. Sir Benjamin doesn’t want to have to turn over the estate to the British National Trust, nor sell it, so he’s on the hunt for an heir who is willing ‘to produce children‘ and make sure the old place continues to proper.
The Maunsel House itself is a 13th-century, 9 bedroom manor house set in the midst of over 100 acres of parkland at the heart of a 1500-acre estate. The property has been the seat of the Slade family baronetcy for over 300 years.
Apparently, Sir Benjamin is keen on finding an American who has lots of enthusiasm for hard work to take over and there’s word that a TV company wants to turn the search into a reality TV show to help select the prime candidate.
You can find out more about the estate at Sir Benjamin’s website here and if you’ve got a New York Times account, you can read more about the search for an heir here.

Fun blog. I know of a strange house in france. A pigeon tower (18/19e century) in south-west france, built to raise pigeons. Round, three round rooms. Know the owner, who probably would be ok to post a photograph. email me if interested.
