Earthship Resident Dennis Weaver Passes On

Actor and environmentalist Dennis Weaver passed on last Friday at the age of 81. While perhaps more well known for his acting and environmental work over the years, Dennis also spent a good portion of life living in a really cool home that he helped design and build himself. A honking 10,000 square foot Earthship.
For those of you not familiar with Earthships, they’re passive solar homes built using recycled tires and aluminum cans. In Dennis’ case, he built his place in 1989 and it took about 3,000 tires and 300,000 aluminum and tin cans to complete. The place is actually for sale right now if you’ve got $3.7 million dollars to spare and want to live in Pleasant Valley, Colorado.
Here’s the page from Dennis’ website that profiles his unique home and then here’s a link to the Earthship Biotecture website for more info on Earthship technology.
A couple of good profiles of Dennis and his life can be found at Lee’s Exuberant Pantaphobia here and at Treehugger.com here.
Have a safe journey, Buck McCoy!

Ah, a celebrity who put his money and lifestyle where his mouth was. How refreshing.
