I’m not sure if the award winning Ontario College of Art and Design has ever made an Offbeat appearance - (I’m feeling lazy about checking all the 2006 archives). That said, I’ll err on the safe side and post it.
If you haven’t seen it; it’s pretty cool. It is however, one of those buildings that […]

Celeste is a “mobile sky” application made for beds, from Crème Fresh. It’s an interesting concept and also just plain slick.
Crème Fresh notes, “Refreshing design” which is certainly what I’d call this. The site suggests it for a loft, which is a great idea. I lived […]

Well, this hotel puts the local Holiday Inn to shame.
Room 314: Unter dem roten Pferd
The Arte Luise Kunsthotel, located in Berlin, notes that they’re called a “Gallery where you can spent the night.” They’re not kidding around. Each room was designed and created by one or more artists, and each is entirely unique. Each room […]

Andreas Angelidakis is a very unusual architect / think tank. The best thing about Angelidakis, is the use of shapes. Nothing is ever a square box with regards to his designs, well, not a boring square box anyhow. From waves, to circles, to geometric oddities, there’s a dream-like structure for just about everyone at Angelidakis’ […]

Honestly, why would you just paint your house beige or tan when you could do this instead…
The two above are from Arch Zine - and there are a ton of other nice murals located at this post. This next slick mural is from The Cool Hunter and I’ve love it since I first saw it […]

Do you remember this cool house?
I posted about this house, the Gilmore Trail House, a while back. Well, Mark Fejes, the fellow who designed and built the home contacted me with an update about it plus some photos. Neat, because if you remember, I noted that I wanted to learn more about it, and […]

6,400 nickels.
Johnny Swing, sculpture, welder, and all around imaginative guy, welded the couch out of nickels after finding the penny medium tough to crack - although, he did eventually sculpt a penny chair as well. It took 300 hours and weighs 125 pounds.
He also has an intriguing, and strangely beautiful, baby food jar chair (96 […]

So, on a good day, I bet I could pull this off:
That’s a big maybe though - I’m not so talented with wet sand.
Team Sandtastic, on the other hand, is incredibly talented with sand. They build sculptures from table-top size to over 200 tons. Insane. They work with some huge names too, but mostly I […]

Lately I’ve been a tad obsessive over Ingo Maurer. Maurer is a lighting genius; taking light and form to an entirely new artistic level.
I’m familiar with some of his work - like the popular Porca Miseria (a white European porcelain piece made with silverware and metal). It’s hard to see in the photo below, but […]

Recently I was contacted by one Rip Read, or, “The Startist” if you will. His work is unique, lovely, and glittering. Read creates custom StarMurals - each one a 100% original piece for commercial buildings, residences, and other structures.
StarMurals are Read’s 5-D works of art that replicate the nighttime sky. And by replicate, I mean […]
