Bestest. Treehouse. Ever.

by Kevin Humphrey on March 18th, 2006

Alnwick Treehouse50 miles north of Newcastle, in the northeast of England, lies the Alnwick Castle and Gardens, realm of the Duchess of Northumberland. When the Duchess recently undertook some renovations and restorations to the property, she decided she wanted a treehouse.

I guess when you’re royalty, you can’t do things like normal folk, because the treehouse that she had built is beyond anything you’ve ever seen. The Duchess even contracted The TreeHouse Company of Fenwick, Scotland to construct it and the end result cost a staggering £3.3 million. That’s about $5.8 million US!

Alnwick TreehouseThe treehouse is actually built within many trees and parts are supported by pilings that sit on the ground. It can hold 300 people at a time and features a restaurant, indoor plumbing and mutliple stone fireplaces.

It opened a little over a year ago, is completely wheelchair accessible, and has quickly become the most popular paid-for attraction in the region.

You can catch lots of photos of the place at this review from TheTreehouseGuide.com and here’s an article from the Guardian that covered the opening last year.
