Best of Offbeat Homes 2007
Welcome to 2008 Offbeat friends!
It’s been a busy year and a busy December. First I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the December’s Reader Appreciation Contest — all of you made this the best month Offbeat has ever seen. I’ll have the three winners sorted out and posted within a week (lots of comments to count). No worries about checking in anxiously to see if you won; I’ll email all the winners.
Contest aside I thought it would be nice to kick the year off with a round-up of Offbeat Homes most popular posts of 2007. Offbeat had lots of popular posts this year but some posts, of course always outshine the rest. I hope you enjoy taking a look back and I hope even more that you stick around for 2008 — what’s sure to be the best Offbeat year ever.
In reverse order here are the top ten most popular Offbeat posts of 2007:
10. Happy Harry Potter Day!: Where would the characters in Harry Potter live if the choice was left up to a certain Offbeat girl? Well, mostly in finely built yet kooky structures of course. Does Snape seem happy about this? Not sure.

9. Offbeat Christmas Trees for Offbeat Homes: A late entry for the year that still made the top cut. People love their beer made trees evidently.

8. Do You Ever Just Feel Like…: Even with a horrid non-explanatory title this house made of books shot to the top ten this year.

7. The Spider Web Chalet: Terrifying name; awesome place to stay if you happen to be in Dalat.

6. The Winchester Mystery House: As a kid I spent a lot of time reading stories of hunted homes. These hunted abodes seem to hold a fascination for everyone. It’s no surprise this house was one of the most looked at in 2007.

5. Patrick Blanc’s Vertical Gardens: The weird thing about this post is how it’s so popular. It’s cool; but is it really this cool? I guess Offbeat readers say yes.

4. Cowabunga - It’s the Simpsons House: What can I say; people love the yellow people and their house.

3. 50 Fresh & Juicy Slices of Offbeat Home Decor: This is one of my personal favorite Offbeat posts ever so I’m glad it made the top three. It took literally hours to write and I do think that it deserves props for all the amazing home items to drool over.

2. The Teenage Dream Pad: Who knew that one young guy and his treehouse would be so popular? Certainly not me. Corbin (aka treehouse builder) touched something in everyone because people just LOVED him and his tree home. A really great post with the best reader comments of the year in my opinion.

And in a stunning take-over, a post I wrote less than a month ago took top honors for the entire year. Talk about shocking. Not to mention I did not see this post as one of my finest — not even close. I don’t know; I guess people are strange and like to surprise me.
1. The Smallest (Real) Home on the Planet: No idea why this post was so popular although I’m betting it’s due to a certain Stumble from a killer blogging girl I know.

There you have it folks; the top Offbeat posts of 2007. Oddly only two of my personal favorites from 2007 made the list. Which perhaps means I should spend 2008 writing about structures I don’t adore endlessly. Maybe the trick is to write about stuff I don’t think people will like. Hmmm, raise your hand if you think that’ll happen. What may happen is that I’ll do a post about my favorite posts of 2007.
What was your favorite Offbeat post of 2007?

Happy New Year Jennifer…
I admit that the book house and the tree house are a couple of my favorites.

I think the book house and treehouse posts were two top contenders for sure. I like my winter house and my hippie / green roof / sign house oh, and that home with the view (the one, ha) too many homes had views but I have a particular view in mind.

Number 3 was my favorite!! And I swear that I smelled an orange right as I came to number 3. It was the weirdest thing and I can still smell it. I’m the only one in the room and I am not eating an orange. It’s amazing what a picture can do for you. :)
Oh…and that killer blogging girl just knows a good post when she sees one. :) Your blog is amazing Jennifer! I have a feeling this is just the beginning for Offbeat Homes. Hope things are going well!!
