Offbeat Homes

A Brand New Blog for the Coffee & Tea Addicted!

by Jennifer Chait on December 2nd, 2007

I’m so there.

I’m not the biggest tea fan but coffee is another story altogether. Not to mention that one of my favorite people is writing this blog. Marye from Baking Delights is rounding out her already useful scone, cookie, and other fine baking recipes with beverages that warm the soul at the new Kettle & Cup.

The tag line for the new Kettle & Cup is, “Coffee, Tea and Marye - Life without Them would Be Cold and Sleepy.” Anyone who knows Marye knows that no one ever said a truer statement. In honor of my good friend’s new blog I thought I’d show a nice offbeat house made of coffee or tea. Sadly offbeat homes made of coffee or tea are in short supply (as in non-existent) and not having time to build one I’m going with other oddities of the structural world related to tea and coffee.

I think you’ll love what I found.

Here is a good example of how much daily brew I drink:

This was Panama’s shot at breaking in an entry for largest coffee cup in the Guiness Book of records this last April. The giant cup was produced by Café Duran, Panama´s largest coffee making company. According to sources, “The giant dispenser needed a team of half a closen “stirrers” using oversize spoons to mix the 750 gallons of coffee more than 90, gallons more than the previous record. The coffee at the park was on sale for charity.” Proceeds went to the Special Olympics.

They served over 8,000 cups — ok, that’s a little more than I drink daily. Not by much though.

If you visit Stanton, Iowa - you can see the world’s largest Swedish coffee pot and cup.

Here’s a nice planter idea — if you have a cafe, or happened to be named Pat.

Now for the best, absolute best, use of a coffee theme in a structure…

Coffee cup porches! Is this so cool or what. I love it. These porches are in Tokyo and I found this at a blog full of killer weirdness — go take a look.

Lastly, if you need another reason to visit Kettle & Cup, Marye is holding a Grand Opening Give Away! all month and each week she’s handing out free coffee! I’m so excited that I’m gonna win this; oh, I mean if I win — anyone can enter. If I was smart I wouldn’t tell you and thus increase my odds. Luckily I’m too sweet for that :)

Take a moment and go say, “Happy Launch Day!” to Marye at Kettle & Cup.

Okay, so it’s not a home, but it’s pretty neat anyways.

Marye, I love the porches too! Happy launch.

Kyle; at Offbeat we show all structures not just homes — that teapot station is cool. Thanks for sharing.

That building is a hoot! I can’t get over how creative people are and what they can do with structures. It’s really inspiring.

As for the coffee, I’m just wondering how one might order a cup such as that large yellow one. Because mine just ain’t cuttin’ it anymore, you know? Time to upsize and that one looks just about right for my morning consumption habits. ;)

The real trick, Lib, would be finding a car drink holder for that cup. Good luck with that. :)
