Classic Offbeat Homes: No one I think is in my tree…

Now, if you’re a music know-it-all, maybe you can guess from the post title which classic offbeat structures we’ll be viewing this week.
Did you make a guess yet?
What sort of structure will it be? Let’s see…

Bubble Wrap Office

Does this building look a little like bubble wrap to you? I don’t know why, but I see it and think, “Hmmm, bubble wrap… pop.” Weird. It’s a cool building none the less.

Bustler has more info and plenty of photos of this J. MAYER H. Architects project; the An der Alster 1 office building.

Sweet Little Colorful Home

I’ve had this bookmarked for ages and ages, but never posted it, because frankly it’s not so offbeat. But man, I can’t keep bookmarks forever. I’ve wrestled with posting it, and due to the fact that I think it’s a head turner, I’m gonna.

How adorable, right?  It reminds me of some tiny Berkeley homes I [...]

A Better ABC Poster for Design Savvy Babes

If you’re a big ol’ fan of unique design, then it’s likely that typical ABC posters full of pastel bunnies, kittens, and bugs for your little one, make you cringe. I know I don’t like them.
If you have a little one on the way, or a toddler, this ABC poster I saw at Core77 is [...]

VW Beetle Inspired Home

A while back, my pal Deb sent me a cool slideshow of random funky architecture. I’d seen most of the structures before, but among them was one neat house I’ve never seen (yay!). Take a look:

Somehow I don’t think my son, my records, and I would all fit in there. Still, this is pretty neat-o. [...]

Sculptured House

I’m not sure if we’ve had the Sculptured House on here before; I know I haven’t posted it. I’m not the biggest Sculptured House fan, which I’m betting puts me in the minority. People seemingly love this Colorado house. The home, designed by Charles Deaton, was featured in the 1973 classic Sleeper by Woody Allen, [...]

The Little Crooked Room

What exactly do you think the goal of the home builder here was? Not that I don’t love it, but that crooked room seems so narrow near the bottom. Maybe it’s a room meant for thin folks? Still it is cool, and you gotta love the platform, plus the star is a nice exterior shot [...]

40 Amazing Treehouses

This last week and a half we saw some new treehouses - not as many as I’d have liked. You know, I don’t think Offbeat is the kind of place that suits series. I spend all week thinking about what I could post if we weren’t doing a series. Hmmm, maybe no more. In any [...]

A Pint Sized Treehouse Room

This is some totally random treehouse room I found a long time ago; and really this site is selling cool wall murals for children’s spaces, not truly homes of any sort. Still, it’s worth a look. I keep wondering which lucky kid on the planet owns this room. I’d have loved this as a kid [...]

A Different Sort of Treehouse

This treehouse wasn’t made exactly to be a treehouse; at least not how you might think.
The Tree House Clapham is covered in the book Diary of an Ecobuilder, and is really special. A huge tree occupied the lot of the Clapham house, making home building a bit of work. However, instead of taking the tree [...]
