This week we’re taking a break and going away. We’re looking at offbeat vacation homes all week that are anywhere but where you are. Unless of course, you’re on vacation, and then well, lucky you.
Ideally, for my perfect vacation, I’d go to Italy. I’ve got a bad crush on Italy. However, rounding in at a [...]

The Casa Ecologica, located in Praia do Rosa - Santa Catarina is sweet. Very nice, like a small pointy hat or crayon tip. I’m guessing that this might be an eco-friendly vacation home from the info at this home’s website. Don’t quote me on that though. My Spanish is VERY sketchy.
Still, you don’t have to [...]

Jamie, from HomeAway, recently sent me some info about a cool slide show - as you’ve likely guessed the slides are of the top 10 odd vacation rentals. It’s a slick slide show (say that 10 times fast), covering different areas of the world. You’ll really enjoy it.
Example: One of these vacation homes shown in [...]

I think the above is my longest post title ever.
It’s been a long week. The servers here have been funky, although b5 tech has been and is working super hard to get it sorted out (go team!). I’m thinking that Offbeat will actually have some new posts this week. Coolness, right? Still, server issues are [...]

Not me. Well, not anymore. If you’re Paul Morgan Architects then you know plain old water tanks are so last year. Marye, from Kettle & Cup, sent me a heads up about this beautiful home, the Cape Schank House. It’s posted at Materialicious - with a name like that, you know it’s a blog you [...]

Peggy, over at Tree Hugging Family, did this killer post about IslandWood at Bainbridge Island. The whole article is worth a read - it’s an environmental learning center and Washington state’s first LEED Gold project. Very slick. Of course I was most smitten with the structures at IslandWood. Terribly unique, sustainable, and simply amazing.
Metropolis - [...]

Bamboo Living Homes is a company that builds and ships bamboo homes - like a container bamboo house. It’s an interesting concept, with some odd building codes mixed in - i.e. it could take you a while to get your permit to actually use one as a home. On the plus side bamboo is a [...]

So, I guessed correctly. The winner of the WAN House of the Year 2007 was…
House J designed by South African architect Kevin Fellingham from Kevin Fellingham Architecture. This was his first major project and thus it’s a huge deal that he won. For once it’s nice to guess right, let me tell you.
The jury’s comments:
